Week 9 EOC; Challenges of classroom vs real world
The challenges that we may face in the real world is managing. I did not learn much in class by my instructor. I read the book but no examples were given. Wait one example was given and it was by the substitute teacher. Luckily I did learn somethings having to do with project management in the merchandising industry when I worked for IKEA. People are more serious in the real world because its real money we are dealing with. Working in the classroom I learned how to delegate and contribute on a different level. I also learned about the challenges that the other team had. There was lots of frustration, mostly because there was not a clear outline. I did ask other interior design professionals if project managing was a vague task. I was told that there will always be some kind of outline or list to go by. So it looks like in the real world there is someone who will know what needs to get done and show you the ropes.

Barbara: What is all the excitement at the Veer Towers? There are quite a few bachelors buying out all the condos. It seems it has become the destination for care free lifestyles and one night stands. It’s perfect for that man who is not into commitments.

Week 7 EOC; Scheduling Issues
If one trade gets backed up the others get pushed back as well. There is a project managing schedule in the book that shows how the trades are affect when one gets behind. Also, We need keep in mind that the budget may also become affected. Change orders may occur which means that more money may be involved and decisions need to be made.

Week 6 EOC; Ideas for sales presentation
I would like to show more of the design aspect rather than the marketing part. I believe a space sells itself more that looking at an ad page that can have a certain message. People also like to attend events that incorporate lunches. They can eat and then pay attention to the presentation.

EOC; Mid Term
Our group was the first place group. We did not read our pages directly from the screen. Our images told the story, and our website was well organized. It turned out very professional. Lucy did a great job when it came to having to “divide and subdivide the project scope into major “pieces,” or work packages” (Gido & Clements).My only concern with our project was the timing of our slides. When we transferred our information over to another computer, the timing went wrong and thus our presentation was cut short. Part of me was thinking “We’ll never get it done in time” (Gido & Clements). But we worked through it and just in the nick of time, we put it together. Overall, our team worked well together. We met up every week to exchange ideas and information. There was a combined effort to put together the power point presentation. We did a pretty good job. Lucy is a great leader; she made sure everyone did their part.
Anne’s group was the second place group. I understood the message they were trying to convey. My problem was that there was a lot of reading from the screen involved. The color of their background was too bright (I could hardly read some areas.) There were some miss spelled words. They did a nice job on their drawings given such a short amount of time. I think that they didn’t quite understand what was required. But that goes for both teams. “Define the specific activities that need to be performed for each work package in order to accomplish the project objective” (Gido & Clements), is what we lacked from our facilitator. Everyone could have done better with closer guidance.
